What's Don Bluth up to These Days???

I was just wondering if someone could tell me what Don Bluth is up to these days? What does he have on the ole back burner so to speak. I for one think that it's ironic that we have not heard from him in quite some time. Does he plan on doing any CG work like some of the other studios have done (and with great sucess I might add.) I would also like to know if he plans on visiting the NYC area anytime soon. I would love the opportunity to meet the creator of one of my favorite animated characters.

Peace :) NIMHmaniac

  • As far as I can tell, he's mostly been working on his Dragon's Lair crowdfunding stuff: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/dragon-s-lair-returns-movie-cartoon#/

I backed the project, not so much because I care about Dragon's Lair, but because he had some pretty awesome rewards, like this reproduction NIMH cell I got: https://twitter.com/timfrisby/status/789365684601884672

In any case, he's been posting semi-regular backer updates, so he seems to be keeping himself busy with that.

He has a Facebook page where he posts updates and stuff about his Dragon's Lair project. Basically he's just making a short film to show to investors to garner interest in the project so that a real full length movie can be made.

I dunno, in this post Pixar/Zootopia world, an old fashioned movie about saving a damsel from a dragon I just don't feel is gonna work out. Now, if they rewrote the characters, I can see it working. However, based on production art on their Facebook page, it looks like the damsel is gonna be super hyper-sexualized. Call it a hunch, but I just don't think that's gonna work in this day and age.

Now if the movie was 90 minutes of Dirk dying in hilarious fashions like the experience you'd get playing the game, I might be interested. But that's because I'm insane.

  • Yeah, definitely don't actually care about Dragon's Lair. I hope he's successful, but I don't expect him to be.

  • I'll admit that I am really not much of a gamer. But I do hope that he suceeds just the same
