Another reason I like this forum software

edited April 2013 in General Discussion

So, a couple days ago, I get an email from my hosting provider saying that my installation of Vanilla Forums is out of date and that I should go upgrade it. I sigh and groan inwardly, knowing how much of a hassle it is to upgrade my own server. It's usually something like, SSH in, do a manual backup of the database and files, unpack the new version on top of the old one, run some sort of script to get things upgraded and then hope nothing broke. Here, the process was literally:

  1. Click the "backup" button on the control panel to do a backup.
  2. Click the "upgrade" button on the control panel to do the upgrade.
  3. There is no step 3 (but if something did break, there's another button I can click to restore things to back the way they were).

So, if any of you have any lingering doubts about my willingness to stick with this forum software and host, I hope that lays them to rest. You can pry it from my cold, dead fingers.
